The nuclear powered submarine, USS Cincinnati (SSN 693), served as a stalwart guardian of national security during the Cold War era. Commissioned in 1978 and decommissioned in 1996, this Memorial serves as a tribute to the city of Cincinnati’s namesake submarine, her role in defending peace, and the dedication and valor of her crew and all those who served during the Cold War. As visitors enter, they will step into a space which brings together history, learning, play and relaxation. Over a decade of planning has led up to this point. The Capital & Endowment Fund will provide support for the enhancement of Educational materials, exhibits, and displays, and will provide funds for the ongoing upkeep of the USS Cincinnati Cold War Memorial Peace Pavilion.
Several large components of the actual USS Cincinnati submarine have been preserved and incorporated into the full size replica of the nuclear submarine. Their new home will be in West Chester, Ohio, at the Voice of America Park. Funding for construction of the memorial has been secured. The CAPITAL & ENDOWMENT FUND has been established in her name at the Northern Cincinnati Foundation. This fund will finance Educational Enhancements, in terms of submarine artifacts, exhibits and displays, and the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of the USS Cincinnati Cold War Memorial Peace Pavilion.
